Budgeting app product film: Making a budget feel like it moves.

A budget is mostly numbers in a table, and it is hard to make anyone feel a table. This app uses envelope budgeting: every dollar gets a category before it is spent. The film turns that into something you can watch. A paycheck splits into envelopes, and the payoff is the "To Budget" figure rolling down to zero.

The idea.

The interface is the real app, run locally with a fictional household budget.

Sound

  • Coins tick as they land and envelopes pop as they fill, so you hear the paycheck being split.
  • The "To Budget" figure ticks down and lands on a success sound at zero. That sound is the payoff of the film.
  • Music is a laid-back licensed hip-hop track, kept low under the voiceover.

Formats

16:9 and 9:16 from one project. In the vertical cut the headline breaks over three lines and the four envelopes stack two by two under it, so the amounts stay readable on a phone.

0:00 to 0:03
Where the money goes. A $4,200 paycheck sends coins arcing into four envelopes: Rent, Groceries, Travel and Fun money. Each amount counts up as its coins land.
0:03 to 0:06
A category for each dollar. Cut to the app's budget page. The camera pushes in on the Travel row and $350 is typed into it.
0:06 to 0:08
It balances. On the "To Budget" card, $350.00 rolls down to $0.00, overshoots a little and settles, then a ring pulses.
0:08 to 0:10
Month after month. The page flips back from October to September with a small bounce.
0:10 to 0:13
Your data stays yours. The transactions blur, a lock snaps shut, and three chips follow: Local-first, Self-hosted, Open source.
0:13 to 0:18
The end title. "Your money." and "Budgeting that finally adds up." over a dimmed reports view, then a closing card, "Budgeting, in motion.", with the OVERSHOOT credit.
